Nectar of the Gods

This morning,

an adventurous black ant

climbed my countertop

to descend into a flowered bowl

and sip the sweet nectar of peach juice

left there by my child.

Would that I were so bold—

to ascend the table of a giant

and drink from the sweet cup of life!

A lovely thought but, perhaps embarrassing to admit, my first reaction is to grab a tissue and bid farewell to the insect with a hearty flush. Farewell fair bug!🙃

Beautiful metaphor. It makes me think of Hebrews 4:16 “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” We can drink of His goodness because of the sacrifice of Christ. 🙂

  3. What a beautifully vivid and relatable piece, Anna! I love how you’ve captured such a simple moment and transformed it into a reflection on courage and seizing life’s opportunities. The imagery of the ant’s boldness as a metaphor for embracing life’s sweetness is so poignant. It really makes you pause and consider the everyday ‘nectars’ we overlook. Such a lovely reminder to take a moment and appreciate the small, yet significant, things. Can’t wait to read more!
